Fylde based arts organisation, Fable Arts, is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Set Designer on ‘ShrimpTown’, a new piece of theatre set amidst the rise of Lytham’s shrimping industry, which will tour across Lancashire in 2017.
This is a fantastic opportunity to influence the development of a new piece of theatre and to collaborate with a small, dedicated team of theatre makers who are passionate about bringing new writing to the stage.
ShrimpTown is a family drama based on real events and memories of Lytham’s shrimping community. Set in the1950’s, it follows the story of Jeanie Rowe, a young working class woman from an old shrimping family, desperate to escape her destiny.
About The Role
The role of Set Designer will involve developing concept designs for the ‘ShrimpTown' set through to production working drawings that consider installation requirements of each tour venue.
The candidate will have a proven background in theatre set design, a working knowledge of construction, scenic carpentry, prop making, scenic painting and graphics and have experience in working with a 3D modelling package.
As well as proven set design experience described above, an ability and willingness to work collaboratively is essential. The role will involve travel to various venues across Lancashire.
Work on the touring production of ‘ShrimpTown’ will not begin until 2017, but the successful candidate will be required to attend preliminary site visits with the Writer and Director to selected venues across Lancashire, in March and April 2016 for which they will be paid travel and expenses.
Once the project goes live the chosen designer will receive remuneration to design and build the ShrimpTown set. In the interest of fostering the development of new theatre makers within the Fylde area, they will also be expected to mentor and guide an emerging designer through the production process.
